Last weekend, Fayetteville High School hosted the VEX V5 Robotics Competition, where 38 high school and 15 middle school teams from across the region competed in intense 2v2 robot battles! Organized by DogByte Robotics, the event showcased creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving as students worked with mentors to design and build innovative robots. 🌍🤖 Seven of our highschool teams made it to elimination rounds and one made it to semifinals. Three district middle school teams made it to elimination rounds with one making it to semifinals. Middle School Team 7187R, the "High Steaks" team, qualified for the State Championship in March. A special thanks to the over 150 dedicated volunteers that kept the competition running smoothly. Congratulations to all teams, and thank you to everyone who made this event possible! 🌟 #VEXRobotics #FayettevilleHighSchool #STEM #FutureEngineers #Robotics

Thanks to a grant from the Fayetteville Public Education Foundation, John L Colbert Middle School (JLCMS) multilingual families are literally sharing their stories. Dr. Mary Collins and JLCMS staff have been hosting family nights where multilingual families gather and participate in interactive sessions with FPS staff to write their family stories. Families and staff work together to revise and edit stories in both English and their native language to prepare to be published in a book later this year. As part of the project, families had a portrait taken that will be both included in the final book and framed as a gift. Dr. Mary Collins is using the power of storytelling to build empathy and community in the school family. This authentic project invests students, families, and school staff in the celebration of language and cultural differences.
